I want to thank you Roy for an excellent course on log home building. The fact that you built your own home and could therefore match the theory with real experience was very helpful. It also meant a lot to be able see the end product all the time while comparing notes.
This practical approach with the tools and machinery was worth more than what one could found in many books and I believe it is going to be very useful once we start with our own project.

Wow what a great course!
I think this is going to pay for itself many times over...
Busy designing on Google Sketchup.
I would recommend this to everyone... I found it a bit of work to get used to, but once you get going it becomes very valuable. The tutorials available on the net are worth going through.
By drawing to scale I have discovered important lessons thus far regarding proper planning..

I hope we can all stay in touch via the forum (look out for Treehugger - that's me!).

The course was excellent and I enjoyed it. Already the brain is swimming with ideas and visions.
Now the hard work comes.
The planning is the second hardest part with the negotiation and bargaining for the materials etc in my opinion the hardest.
It will be fun though.

I got home safely on Monday, thanks. All I would like to say about the course is that anyone looking to build a house needs a course like yours before they make that lifetime commitment to debt. I wish I had known about it at the beginning of the year, before getting the site. Anyways, it's a lesson learnt.

The course and the information was adequate for me to now engage in my building project that I've been dying to get on with, it's given me confidence. I always wanted to build a unique kind of a house and this is it.

Thanks for it all and I sure will keep contact. I enjoyed the course very much.

Hi Roy,

Just a note to say thanks for the course and the hospitality shown by yourself and your family to both Steve and myself.

The conversation the whole way home was about design and any grove of trees passed along the way was in danger of being chopped down and carted off, Steve wants to start building yesterday he is so psyched up.

All I can say is CONVERTED!! Stuff the bank and getting another mortgage.

Only got back this afternoon but already visited two scrap metal dealers, one timber yard, spoken to someone who has a log cabin nearby about getting plans approved, and set up a meeting with a mate who fells trees in an effort to find a second hand Bandsaw mill. Luckily I have numerous Gum tree plantations within a 5km radius of my small holding.

The coarse was great, my wife and I learned a lot. I think it is a good idea if the men take their wife’s along to do the course, as it gives them a better understanding of what you want to do and therefore you have more support from them boosting you to build them a nice solid log home and they will not mind when you spend money to buy the right tools.
