I found your training sessions hugely informative and very interesting. There is nothing like getting invaluable advice from a true expert.
All the best
Hallo Roy, Cathy and Connor
When I applied for this course I was just a woman with the crazy idea of building my own log home. Never held a chainsaw in my hand, ever….
Your information, advise, encouragement and practical demonstrations was so energetic and helpful that I now KNOW that I CAN build my own home!! I met new people from all walks of life, different occupations, male and female. I felt part of something bigger that just learning about log homes.
Thank you for your hospitality, the wonderful Sunday meal and most of all, thank you for sharing your expert knowledge and experiences.
Thank for the course. It was extremely valuable and informative. I've registered on the forum and look forward to tapping into the wealth of knowledge and experience.
Kind regards, Jamie
Just wanting to thank you for a great course this past weekend, I learnt a huge amount and really enjoyed it.
You really have a lovely home, an inspiration to get something built for myself, thanks to you and Cathy for having us.
I'll keep you updated when I throw the foundations!
Roy and Family
Thanks again so much for the teachings and inspiration. I still cant get over the invaluable lessons. Will be keeping in touch.
Warmest regards, Moa
Good morning Roy
I had a blast on the course, materials were excellent and practicals even better, just wish it was longer..hahaha! I am busy in my file almost every night going through what you taught me. Busy working on my scale model now. Will send pics if you keen to see.
Thank you very much, for the amazing experience and sharing your wealth of knowledge.
Kind regards Damian
Thanks for the information transfer this weekend. I found the training to be highly resourceful and your knowledge of the subject immense. Please forward my thanks to your wife as well for welcoming me into your lovely home and her hospitality. Hope to keep in touch and chat via the forum.
Thanks Roy and thumbs up for a great course and also sharing your vast knowledge :)
Thanks a million for the course, it truly was a unique experience and knowing that I walked away with knowledge that is no where else to be found in this country made it even more memorable.
I look forward to starting my own project soon and thanks to you will now be able to do so.
I joined the forum as well so I guess we'll run into each other again on line.
Wishing you and your family all the best for the future.
Never stop what you are doing, in todays world your shared knowledge and others like you will become the new currency.
Thank you for an Amazing experience & Beautiful memory!!! I with always cherish,
as it was the last thing my Dad & I did, before he passed in September.
Thank you for a very informative and well-structured course.
We left with lots of valuable knowledge regarding the butt and pass building system, but what really intrigued me was your innovative approach to challenges.
Your course has definitely convinced me that this is one of the best and easiest ways to really build sustainably with very little footprint.
Thanks for presenting the best course I've been on, ever. Pass thanks on to your wife for her hospitality and excellent food.
Roy, Thanks for a great weekend and even more so the excitement that was displayed by David during our 3 hour drive back to PE was incredible.
A very informative and and mind opening experience, thank you.
Thanks for the course it was great. It just emphasized once again that I can do this. I am a lot more comfortable about building log homes and I hope I don’t sound arrogant but it is a lot easier than building the traditional way for sure and basically anyone with a bit of go in them can actually do this….. well that is what I took away from the course.
Of course there are loads of important information that I did not know and as they say we are never too old to learn. I must say when we arrived I was actually overwhelmed by the size if the structures. A picture cannot explain the massive size of everything. That said by day two it felt natural and was easier to take in. It also feels safe and secure and of course inside your home it is extremely comfortable and homely. I can easily live there.
Once again thank you, I now have a lot of food for thought. I was considering traditional, steel frame and log homes as an option for our property in Hoekwil. The reason for the course was to way up and see what is best for me. Right now, I am leaning more towards your method of construction.
Thank you for the extremely informative course you held. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed staring at your workshop during our breaks. Very impressive stuff you have built.
The course was packed with all the info(and much more)that anyone would need to build a log home. Having it at ur place in a log home makes all the difference. To be able to see and touch an actual build really helps.
Hope we may meet up again in future. Pls send regards to Cathy.
All the best, cheers.
Absolutely fantastic course. The tips and tricks from someone who has actually designed and built their own home, is priceless.
Once again thanks for an incredible and enlightening weekend!
Just to say again - it was an awesome experience to be on the course as well as been in your house and workshop.
Hello Roy and Cathy
Hope this email finds you well.
I would like to express my appreciation one more time for the awesome experience that I enjoyed on the course this past weekend.
It was great meeting all of you (Connor included) and the course is something that I will never forget. Cathy, thank you for your effort and labour of love (also the coffee, snacks and good meal yesterday J).
Your course was the most informative course I have ever attended, Thank You for also making it so interesting. Apart from your course being interesting, it is the first time that I have walked away from a course feeling very confident that I can achieve great results using the course material.
Your experience and easy-to-follow instructions will allow a person from any background to successfully build a Log Home.
Natasja & I got back to Krugersdorp safely, thanks for asking.
I certainly will give you feedback as I go along. Lastly, please thank Cathy & your son on my behalf for all their hard work behind the scenes and for allowing us to trod around in her home.
You truly are a lucky man to have such an understanding wife.
Wanted to thank you for the course and your wealth of knowledge. I am overly excited to start building our home and I am convinced Markus is too; although he is more technical and worries about the little details a bit more than I do.. which is probably a good thing :)
I enjoyed your teaching style; loved the fact that you use so many stories to illustrate what you are talking about. Also loved how interested you seemed to be in what everyone had to say; I never felt like any question was a silly one (although some probably were to people in the building industry).
I struggled a bit with the information overload but I know that once we start doing stuff it will all come back to us.
We will stay in touch and sign up for the forums.
Thank you so much Roy.
Thank you for the wonderful information packed weekend. I've arrived home 3 hrs ago and have started gathering material for my first model.
Please send my regards to Cathy.
Hi Roy and Cathy,
Thank you so much for your insight, hospitality, inspiration and practical advice for building log homes. We thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and came away with a renewed motivation and ideas for our log home project.
All the very best
Richard and Cathy
Hard to believe it is 6 weeks since the course. I want to say thank for both an informative and enjoyable time.
I am also wanting to make sure that I am registered to access the website forum.
Thanks again. It was certainly a memorable weekend.
Once more, a very great thanks for the knowledge.
It was great spending the weekend with you learning ...my wife was also sold to the idea of the log building.
Thanks to your understanding family as well.
Will be keeping in touch. Best, Moa
Trust this email finds you fully engaged in your passion for living modestly and sensibly in a world that finds itself on precipice.
What an absolute an pleasure it was to attend the log house building course, I am so inspired to start this log house project and cannot wait to make the first step in purchasing a plot. My wife is so keen to attend the course after seeing the pictures and seeing the energy this experience has invigorated me with.
All the best and warm regards to Cathy.
Good day Roy
I would like to thank you for very well presented course. I found the course very interested and enjoyable.
Roy I found your knowledge on a vast array of topics very impressive and your building “tips” invaluable. I’ve made as much notes as I possibly could in my Loghome Manual, as you might have seen.
You are truly a very special couple.
Tracey and I hope to start building our home early in the new year once we have secured a stand and we are very excited to do everything mortgage-free. Thanks to you and the course this is no longer a dream but very achievable indeed.
To think that only last weekend I stumbled upon your website and now a week later I have the “tools” to build my home mortgage-free. It is just too amazing for me. I’m on such a “high” at the moment.
May God bless you and your marriage in the years ahead.
Thanks for an excellent course chock-full of interesting stuff and plenty of nifty tricks to get the job done properly and in half the time. Definitely well worth the trip to George to see the master at work! Many thanks once again for a fantastic course.
Many thanks Roy.
So glad we did your course.
Just arrived back home. I really enjoyed the course and can't wait to start my new project. I managed to source a block of eucalyptus just out side of Albertinia, and about 40 km From where I want to build.
The course was really informative and well presented. Thanks to you, your wife and the dogs For the hospitality.
Thank you for the course this weekend we enjoyed every bit of it. Very well presented and informative. You have covered a lot of areas and given us a lot of food for thought. Also Cathy thanks for the teas and coffees and the very special(unexpected) lunch on Sunday and keeping us to the strict time line, without that we would probably still be there!
Gerard and Cheryl-Lynne
Thank you for an Awesome course… We can’t wait to start building!
We will send you a photo when done.
Thank you again!
Many Thanks indeed for a tremendous course presentation!
Hi Roy and Cathy,
Have been quite an experience to be on the course, thank you very. much. Have already acquired an erf to build on, built a model and drawn up all the sketches. It is now sitting with the draughtsman and then for approval. quite few people tried to pie on my fire, saying that at 76 I am to old to try something like this.
Thank you once again for the course presentation. It was very informative and well demonstrated. I learned something new and yes, although my circumstances have changed since the first time I wanted to do this course two years ago, I now have the basic knowledge with a lot of practical information and tips to go ahead and start planning. I have registered and will definitely make use of the forums as well.
I found the course very enjoyable and worthwhile. I learnt a lot and have take quite a bit away from the course regarding many aspects of the building process and woodwork that I will be putting to use in some way or another.
Thanks to you and Cathy for the hospitality. Wolfie for chewing my shoe permanently and your danger chicken for staying away :P
Thank you very much for the very informative course, it was interesting start to end, and this coming from someone with a concentration span of a flea. Your home just has such serious wow factor, that I would love to be able to produce something similar one day to impress the socks off my mates. I look forward to discovering space and logs for that matter to continue this dream, and of course not to be a slave to an awful mortgage. Now equipped with the right knowledge I'm sure I can pull it off.
Good luck and hope to cross paths again one day. Thank you very much to you and Cathy for having me.
Roy & Cathy
Thank you both for all the effort put into hosting this course. I found it not only educational but inspiring. Google may be "your friend" but the is no comparison to hearing it from the "Masters" voice (LOL) At 51 I am now departing on a new chapter in my life and once my log home is complete it will by in large thanks to you two and the camaraderie of the group we had on course. Met a great bunch of people and hope to keep in contact as we move forward.
Hey thank you Roy and Cathy!
Awesome course, learnt loads, makes soo much sense.
Spotted loads of Bluegums just waiting to be chopped on route back to C.Town.
Registered on forum.
Bought dowels/nails for model yesterday.
Roy, it was the best! Thank you and send my regards to your family and Leo!
All the best,
Thank you for the excellent course presentation this weekend. Looking at trees have taken on a whole new meaning now. Will be accumulating all the goodies needed over the next year or so. I have given myself a January 2017 deadline to start. Keep well.
Just a short note to give you and Kathy a heartfelt thanks for the course and wonderful hospitality we all enjoyed this weekend. It was a truly enjoyable and memorable experience and can’t wait to get started on my model and plans. A life-changing adventure awaits!!!
Thank you Roy
It was an excellent course, well presented and hosted.
Very informative, educational, practical and inspirational.
We have already identified the site for the house and bought a good second hand planer and saw We now look at gum trees in a different light. Each one represents an opportunity.
Thank you to Kathy too for her hospitality and letting us into your wonderful home.
I highly recommend the course.
Gary and Alan
I just want to thank you again for an excellent course which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Thanks again for opening your home up to me and for the great course over the weekend it was surely something to remember and most informative. I have now finally got something to hang on the wall to replace my mother in laws photo with.
Thanks for that.
All the best to you and Cathy.
Roy,Thank you very much for an excellent course that was presented in the best way that I have ever seen.
Please give my regards and thanks to Cathy for the food and coffee.I enjoyed everything on the course and I learned quite a lot.
Thank you for your email. Firstly I would like to thank you and your wife for opening your home to us to share the valuable knowledge that you obtained through your own hard work and financial investment.
I really enjoyed the course and found it to be very insightful and practical. As you requested here is my feedback:
-The information given was thorough and relevant.
-Your method of presentation was good. You connected well with the audience and kept us engaged with relevant stories. For the most part, your explanations were very clear, given that you’re an engineer and most of your students are probably not and yet we were able to grasp the different concepts.
The overall experience I got from attending your course was very positive. I gained enough knowledge to be able to build my own house and thus I think we reached the desired outcome.
Again thank you for your hospitality and willingness to share, you guys are great!
Thank you for the excellent course, it has been great to learn and to spend the time with your family.
Thank you for opening your home to us. Craig and I have certainly learned a lot of things and it was a real eye opener!
We will definitely stay in touch via the forums and are excited to start our planning phase.
I felt that you were very knowledgeable and the content was well presented and I certainly feel that the file that you provided has clear instructions and will be easy to follow.
It is a wonderful thing you are doing in the bigger scheme of things and I hope you keep inspiring a lot of people.
Thanks for the great weekend. Also for letting us feel so welcome in your home. Thanks for the great coffee and biscuits every morning. I learned a lot. Got home safely today and looking forward to start building a home.
Good day Roy and Cathy
Thank you for a most inspiring weekend. Your teaching techniques, methodology, and experience has made everything that I learnt understandable and simple. I have learnt a vast amount about being a log home builder.
I would like to continue to keep in touch and should you permit, to establish an ongoing friendship with you.
Once again my heart felt thanks to you, Roy, for the course and to Cathy for making me feel welcome during my time there.
This is fantastic will send you a detailed response soonest.
I wish I could take your brain home with me, I have never grasped so many new concepts in just 2 days.
Just a quick note to say thanx very much for having me on your course, very enjoyable and educational.
Battling to sleep as I’m fully into building my place, made a couple of sketches and have tried to source a bandsaw. If you heard of a good deal please let us know.
Pop in when your in our area again.
It was a pleasure being on your course.
You have opened up possibilities and ideas that I have not considered before.
Looking forward to staying in contact through the forum and hopefully be able to contribute to the collective knowledge pool.
Hi Roy and Cathy
Thanks for an very enjoyable, learning and interesting weekend! Was awesome and inspiring.
As we are planning a second dwelling (much smaller than we have and yours-hehe) in Gauteng closer to the other kiddies LOGS is our choice.
Also thanks again to Cathy for the coffee, snacks over the weekend ( and Cathy love your jam-hehe)-THANKS.
Good luck with the garage/workshop-will pop in to "check" it !!
Have a good day and week!!
Thanks for the course it was great.
It just emphasized once again that I can do this.
I am a lot more comfortable about building log homes and I hope I don’t sound arrogant but it is a lot easier than building the traditional way for sure and basically anyone with a bit of go in them can actually do this….
well that is what I took away from the course.
Firstly a very big thank you for a very informative and interesting course.
Joanne and I learnt a lot and still have a lot to learn but we are looking forward to moving into the next phase of our lives with the knowledge on how to build our next home.
We just need to find our "little place in the sun" to build it.
Once again thank you to you and Cathy for the weekend.
Hi Roy and Cathy
Thank you so very much for the amazing and most insightful weekend.
At last someone that understands "'Log Homes"" not match stick things.
We are so excited but will heed your advice and Plan Well and Do not rush.
Thank you Roy for your mentorship, and opening the shutters from our eyes.
Even when we got back people are still sceptic.
Well they will have to wait and see what a ""Log Home"" really look like hehehehe.
Cathy thank you for your hospitality and the friendliness for enduring us in your house.
What a wonderful family
Thanks so much for everything! I really enjoyed the course and am now excited busy with our plans and costings!
A huge thanks to your son Connor – an absolute star!
Was truly a wonderful experience for us and loads of information.
Will sign up – thanks so much Roy and will keep in touch.
Good day Roy,
Thank you so much for a great course.
I finally have time to respond and thank you for a wonderfull experience.
I've been on probably a few dozen courses in my life, but yours truly stand out as quite unique and very enjoyable.
Long may it continue.
At 50 years young I now have a definite new adventure to enjoy and I hope I will be as bloody minded as you were and get my log home done.
I will keep you posted via the forums.....
To LOG homes and beyond....
Thank you for a great weekend and a superb course! Thanks too to Cathy and Connor for putting up with us in your beautiful home all weekend.
For a great time at your place.
Can't wait to start building.
And thanks again for a great course.
Thanks again for an extremely informative and enjoyable learning experience this weekend!
Many thanks for an enjoyable and very informative log home building course.
I now find myself telling my Wife about rot zones and the volume of a frustum of a pyramid - and get told to bugger off.
Thanks also to to Cathy for all the coffee, biscuits and most enjoyable Sunday lunch and to that big black dog for not eating me.
All the best
A late thank you for an extremely well presented course,i really enjoyed it.
Once again many thanks
Thank you for your hospitality and well-presented course.
You have most certainly given Morne and I new enthusiasm and many ideas.
We will be posting plans and models as soon as we have agreed on which of all these ideas will suit our needs the best.
Myself and Kappie thought the course was amazing and will keep highly recommending it to all out mates.
We have already secured access to get some blue gum trees from neighbours farm - we think it might be useful to do the first house out of blue gum trees as apposed to pine.
It was a great pleasure to meet you and hopefully we will be in a position to show you some progress in the near future.
Im sure we will be in touch as we get going.
Thanks again for the great course over the weekend.
My next trip down to the garden route will be to look for a suitable piece of land to start building!
BIG THANK YOU again for the great course.
I was serious when I said that I want to take what I learned from you and apply it to all areas of my life.
It was a true blessing for me to be there and I mean it in more than one way.
It was a great eye-opener and a fantastic course.
I would like to have a nice conversation with you some day over a lekker braai, my treat! Please send my regards to your family.
All the best,
Great stuff! It’s amazing how one looks at the trees in the area differently after completing the course.
I’m homing in on a nice thicket of blue gums a few kilos up the road from me.
That’s materials sorted.
Now it’s just finding the perfect location.
Shouldn’t be a problem, property is super cheap here at the moment.
Have a good one!
Thank you for a wonderful and highly informative weekend.
I had a blast and I learned a lot.
I am much better equipped to fulfill the dream of my own log house.
On Thursday, I'm visiting a plantation close by.
I am wasting no time.
Pass my greetings to your wonderful wife and son.
Once again thank you for the informative course
In the weekend I was away someone must have planted thousands of fully grown gum trees, I see them everywhere now
I have already taken a look at some of the projects done in the past.
Just amazing - and I am itching so much more.
Thanks once again for the great course.
Thank you for a very informative and well-structured course.
I think we left with lots of valuable knowledge regarding the butt and pass building system, but what really intrigued me was your innovative approach to challenges.
I myself tend to rather want to understand the “why” to everything than just the “how” of any method.
Your course has definitely convinced me that this is one of the best and easiest ways to really build sustainably with very little footprint.
Thank you once again for a very nice, informative and practical course! I thoroughly enjoyed it and am very excited to start with my own cabin!
I like your attitude of questioning and challenging some of the absurdities that we are subject to and in more than one way I have learned a thing or two from you!
I am amazed at what you have achieved and what you can do!
Also thank Cathy again for all she put in, which really was a lot.
Also Connor for his coffee, he reminds me so much of my son.
And for the privilege to invade your privacy as a family over the two days.
Good morning Roy
Thanx again for a good time
Regards and thanx for the course, really inspiring.
Thank you for a very informative, interesting and motivating two days.
Both Gary and I are very excited and are really looking forward to building a retirement home for my wife and I.
What makes it more interesting and exciting is that it will be a father and son project.
Once upon a time I was quite keen on the stockade style and I wanted to do the self-build course promoting this style, but never got round to it.
I bought many log cabin building books back then, but stockade style never received more than a few pages worth of mention.
Anyway, I’m now a “butt and pass” convert, and there’s no looking back.
My brother-in-law Allan and I are very grateful for the privilege of having attended your course.
Thanks for opening up your home!
Thanks a lot for the great course, I learned a lot and it was very well and pleasantly presented.
I am sitting at PE airport waiting for my flight back to Durbs.
My mind has been racing with ideas and I can't wait to start on some small projects to pay a few more "school fees" before I try something bigger.
The course was fantastic and I will join the community as soon as I can get on line again.
Thanks for everything.
Thanks again for the course.
It was extremely worth it and very informative, I’ll definitely recommend it to friends.
I’ve registered for on the forums so please change my status when you get a free moment so that I can get involved in the community.
I’m very keen to get building.
Thanks for the wonderful course: it was most informative.
If ever I get so far as building a log fisherman's cottage, a builder's friend would have to do it and attend your course.
I wish you well with your workshop and I am most impressed with your house and enjoyed and learned a lot from your course.
With gratitude and best wishes
Thank you both for making it a special and memorable occasion.
Jetta and I enjoyed the course immensely and you left us with the confidence to tackle the building of our log home by ourselves even at the ripe age of nearly 70!
I personally learned so much from you not only how to go about building a log home but also how to approach many of my everyday projects by simplifying things instead of getting bogged down by trying to over engineer everything.
I have for months been struggling with how to replace the roof on my farm house in the Karoo and now after your guidance I am confident to apply the same simple methods you taught us and will use eucalyptus logs as the beams, etc.
I have located a good source of trees that I can select for our log home and they will be felled for me by the owner.
I have to debark and remove the logs which is exactly what I am looking for.
I am now gathering the equipment needed and who knows we might be starting our project before long.
I am looking forward to join the forum and hopefully share some ideas.
Once again thank you so much for the knowledge you shared with us and the patience you showed in dealing with the group.
Frank and Jetta
I have not had a chance yet to say thank you for taking care of my boys.
They love it and have talked about little else!!!!!!
I am hoping to come myself a little later in the year.
Thank you again and a wonderful 2014 for you and your family
I just just wanted to thank you and Cathy for your hospitality and Cathy especially for the refreshments every day and the fantastic Sunday lunch.
Thanks very much - looking forward to getting stuck into everyone else's experience, and I would be very happy to share my own as well.
There's an unbelievable stand of straight bluegums very close to Knysna.
The spacing and general appearance suggest it's being managed for wood, but I have never seen such a nice looking plantation.
Just a thank you from me.
the course was very good and I enjoyed it and learnt a lot .
please let me know if u need help sorting logs and all as I am very keen.
Have already done my 3D plan on the pc and have the size worked out.
Anyway, keen to hear from you.
Happy new year
Thank you again for a great weekend with you and Cathy.
I am finally safely back at work (my official job in the DRC)… Myself and Alison did enjoy the course very much and we are already busy on our scale model.
I did the ground floor and left her to do the 2nd floor and roof.
We have also staked out the proposed building, and the land will cleared during this month.
Drawing of the plans will also commence soon and then we can start construction.
Of course, in the meantime we will start to “collect” the building material.
It is quite amazing how many suitable trees are out there for building the structure… (We had a good look at all the trees next to the road on our way back home).
I will keep you posted on our progress, and might even call you when I get stuck…… As for you course...
It was very well presented and myself and Alison enjoyed it very much, and we both are very excited about your “out of the box” building method.
My dad was in the building industry and I therefore have a very good understanding of conventional brick and mortar construction.
What I do appreciate about your course is that it is all good practical, sound and proven advise, and of course your house is a perfect example thereof.
The fact that you go beyond the construction is also a big plus…… I came to the course with a basic floor plan of what I wanted, but changed it after the weekend.
It is now more suited to my plot, easier to construct, and still enough to make it a “wow” place.
When I got home after the course I bought the material for the scale model and started planning, and then I realized what great advise it is to do a scale model first because it forces you to plan, plan and plan again.
I’d spend a whole afternoon on planning and once I got going on constructing my model it went really quick – (Took me an hour to build the ground floor).
Once again a big thank you from me and Alison….
Regards to Cathy and keep well….
I really thoroughly enjoyed your course and I am very optimistic about my future options now with log building being apart of that repertoire.
Thank you and your beautiful family for a most interesting and educational course.
All the best for the new year and enjoy the bit that is left.
Good morning Roy,
Many thanks for an informative and enjoyable weekend.
I am already looking for potential log suppliers and will be building my own models once back from the holidays:)
Course and content in the file was really good, got more than I bargained for.
Many thanks and keep up the good work liberating and empowering us home builders of the future :)
I found the course practical, informative and empowering.
I look forward to hearing what others are up to.
Thanks for a very enjoyable and informative weekend.
I gathered so much information this weekend.
Not just in log home building, there was so much interaction, that I learned much more about farming and concerns about property.
I will take this weekend with me for a very long time in life.
Roy has so much wealth in his family, home and knowledge.
The fact that they opened their home for students during the course, said so much about the warmhaerted people that they are.
Thanks Roy for sharing your knowledge with us and Cathy you are such an awesome person.
Connor thanks for all the coffee and snacks provided when your mom wasn't available.
I would also like to thank you again for the course.
It was absolutely invaluable.
We enjoyed your course and your can-do attitude.
Thanks so much for the most interesting, inspiring and extremely thorough course.
I cant wait to get started soon,I have already started to look for a little patch of forest to call my own.
Every where i look now i just see timber hahaha its great.
I hope to see you soon for some more cool chats and questions if you dont mind Stay well and send regards to your cool wife.
o, and your dogs :)
Good evening Roy,
We enjoyed the course very much.
The presentation was exellent, course notes very comprehensive, the venue one of a kind as it doubles up as practical example and hospitality/catering, much appreciated.
In closing, thanks a lot to you and Cathy for a most enjoyable course.
Dries and Lida
I just wanted to thank you for the course, I really enjoyed it and learnt a lot over the last two days and can't wait to start applying all this new knowledge into a place that I can one day call home.
I would also like to thank you, Cathy and Conner for your guys great hospitality and friendliness and allowing us to into your stunning house filled with warm smiles every time.
Kind regards and I'm sure ill see u guys around sometime soon
and again for a great and inspiring course.
THANKS FOR A VERY ENTERTAINING AND USEFUL 2 DAYS.
Roy & Cathy,
Thanks so much for inviting us into your gorgeous home, for an awesome weekend, and for all the incredible knowledge you imparted to us all.
A truly inspiring and life altering experience, with unlimited possibilities and opportunities abound.
It was all so unbelievable, and impossible, until you brought it all into perspective and down to earth within our grasp! WOW!! Can't wait to get rolling on the first project.
Thanks for the hospitality the course turned out to be much better than I anticipated.
It was well worth the price & it was great to talk to people of like minds.
Best two days i’ve had in a while.
Good morning Roy,
Thank you sincerely.
The course was excellent.
Thanks & Regards
Thanks for the great course this weekend! It was such an inspiration.
Hi Roy and Cathy,
Thanks for this wonderful eye opening opportunity this past few days it was awesome, would like to attend another .
Will see you when I’m at my place in Kleinkrantz.
Hi Roy and Cathy,
From me and Armand a big thanks, it was surely a memorable experience.
The course was good, really good.
You are an excellent presenter, very well prepared and the change of activities well planned.
At times you were a bit concerned at the few questions we asked.
In my and Armand’s case, we had many discussions beforehand and had sorted out about 80% plus of the issues.
The remaining was ah-ha moments where you simply completed the puzzle.
I think many of the other participants will have similar comments.
Meeting somebody such as Gerrie has definitely eased our minds on sourcing timber.
Yep, now it’s up to us to do our own planning, make the decision and to build.
Thanks again for hosting us in a pleasant and professional way.
Bill has summed it up perfectly.
We had a really great time and drank miles too much of Cathys nice coffee.
The course was very interesting.
I will let you know how we progress here in getting plans to implement new ideas into rural housing.
Just a big thank you to you and Cathy for hosting us in your home over the past weekend.
The course was really an eye opener for me and the knowledge gained has opened my mind to possible opportunities.
The course was well presented with a good mix of theory and practical.
I am really motivated to get the ball rolling to convert the dream, my own log home, into reality.
Will keep you informed of the progress and also participate in the forums.
the course was brilliant! I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing and wouldn't change a thing.
Just the right amount of sitting listening and getting out and seeing.
I'm very inspired to build my own home and plan on moving forward with it as soon as rachel and i can afford the plot etc.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Hi Roy & Cathy,
The coffee & scones were excellent, pity the guy next to me kept nicking the scones.
Not to mention the Log Home Building Course - absolutely fantastic.
I came away so fired up that I have noted all gum plantations on the side of the road (probably windbreaks) between Wilderness & Cape Town.
You are an inspiration to us all, and make it all sound so easy (we’ll have to ask Cathy about that!).
I think that the course is more than a ‘build your own home’ course, there are a lot of life lessons involved in it too, not to mention the positive thinking aspect.
Roy, an excellent week-end where I learned a great deal and de-stressed at the same time.
Money well spent and I will be sending my son on a course towards the end of the year.
Thank you and Cathy for your hospitality and sharing,
Tks for a great and informative weekend.
I enjoyed the course immensely.
Please thank your family for their hospitality.
Just wanted to let you know Kaleb thoroughly enjoyed your Log Cabin course!
Haven't seen him this excited in a long while - he has already started on his model!
My thank you to you!
Firstly, many thanks for a most inspiring week end which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Both you and Kathy are so dedicated and such wonderful people that I felt really privileged to have been able to meet you and to participate in the course.
Thank you so much for all the time and energy that you both put into presenting the course and keeping us well fed too! The course you give is so well presented and so well documented that a novice, like myself, could follow with ease.
I know I will yet spend many hours absorbing the wealth of information you have supplied, for which I am very grateful.
I am very inspired , firstly to do the model, and then to prepare for the real thing!! It is a mystery to me still as to how I will get it all together!! But I will!! I think we had a super group of people too, and that was also special!
I do hope we remain in contact not only for advice when desperate and at my wits end, but as friends.
With wishes for many Blessings to you and your family,
Morning Roy and Cathy
We have arrived safely.
Thanks for everything.
May God richly bless you and your lovely son.
Lunga and Noxolo
Thank you and Cathy for a wonderful weekend.
Really inspiring to see all the projects and models.
Hi Roy, thanks for the awesome course, it was great fun.
Hats off to you Roy for a most impressive course!!
'Just wanted to say your course should be renamed "Personal Empowerment through Log Home Building"!!!! How you manage to cram the principles of efficiency and financial freedom, detailed instructions on exactly how two people can construct a log home from start to finish - with some very impressive engineering lessons generously added to the mix - in such a short time, seems somewhat magical to me.
I so appreciate how much research lies behind the your efficient instructions.
You've clearly done all the time-consuming and heavy groundwork and thought through every aspect of log building thoroughly; you've found the safest, more effective ways to build, own and maintain a beautiful home; you teach others how to make extremely wise decisions about money including how to NOT pay three times the value of the house by not having a bond, how to shop wisely which can apply so much more broadly than just buying building materials, and raise the possibility of earning an income through producing wooden products like planking!!! Thanks also to you and your lovely Cathy for sharing your special home with us and providing inspiration and living proof that Denny and I can, in fact, build our very own log home!!! Woooo Hoooo!!!!
Love and Light to you, Cathy and Connor
Thank you Roy,
Also thanks for giving me the opportunity to tap from your knowledge.
It was a wonderful two days and a eye opener in many ways.
I also understand that the skills and knowledge need to be underpinned by genuine hard work to achieve success.
I am now motivated more than ever to get going.
Please convey my appreciation also to Cathy for treating us so special and being an important contributor to you and the course in general.
You must be grateful for having such a special person to contribute to a successful course.
J D Marais
Many thanks to you, Cathy and Connor for your hospitality.
This was an excellent course and Matthew and I had a great weekend.
I am recommending this course to all my friends, and specifically those that are in the services and construction industry and will continue to do so.
Awesome, thanks Roy
Regards and Best Wishes
Thanks for presenting the course this weekend.
I am glad I attended, it was hugely informative.
Regards to Cathy.
Thanks again for the course, it was excellent!
Thanks I enjoyed your course tremendously.
Thank you for a brilliant and informative course that was no nonsense ,simple and practical.
I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for a well presented course.
It was very informative and interesting.
The practical know-how tips that you shared is of great value.
I strongly recommend this course for the alternative building enthusiasts, the owner-builders and the experienced building contractors - seeing that all of them could derive some value from the course.
Thanks again for the fantastic course!
Thank you very much, excited to get onto the forum….
got a lot to learn.
Managed to splice my first piece of rope yesterday…easy once you get it.
Have a lovely day,
Thank you very much for a lovely informative week end, I really enjoyed having the privilege to learn about building log homes and being in your home.
I have started on plans for my home, I will send you pictures as soon as I have completed building the model of my home.
Thanks, we arrived safely back home, once again thanks for a brilliant weekend, it took me almost two years to decide if I must do this course or not and I can say today that I am glad I did.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a lot.
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us.
Pieter from Nigel, Gauteng
Thank you so much for a absolutely fantastic and very informative course.
I really really enjoyed it.
I am starting to play around with some house plan ideas and look forward to building my scale model.
Hi Roy and everyone else
Thanks so much for the fantastic weekend, the hospitality and the informative course! I had a great time and I believe everyone else did too.
Thanks for an amazing course, Roy!
I am fully amped to do this and I'm even thinking career changes at this stage.
My feet are barely touching ground, have so many ideas and plans after the course, really glad we came for it.
Thanks again to you and the family for having us, keep up the good work!
Will stay in touch!
Thanks for the great course, I'm amazed at your engineering brain.
Cant wait to start my project.
Thanks for the very inspiring weekend, we really enjoyed it and the amazing hospitality of your family.
Your attention to detail and the willingness to part with your knowledge was refreshing, also great coffee :)
The forum is really great, only scratched the surface and i have already downloaded some very useful reading material.
Also nice to see your constant replies and advice on the forum, at least we wont feel like we left in the dark if we hit a snag .
anyway thanks again
Dear Roy and Cathy,
A huge thank you for the most enjoyable course, your generosity in sharing it and for your hospitality.
I am now looking at the pine trees at the bottom of the garden in a completely new light! Kind regards Marianne
Marianne & David
We are very excited to start planning the log home we intend to build.
The information and techniques you passed on to us are invaluable and having the manual is going to stand us in good stead when we are building.
I did not think it was possible to learn this in a couple of days.
Thanks and best wishes,
Paul and Kathy
Thanks for the great weekend, I enjoyed the course tremendously and we have had endless discussions on what and how and when since then! Regards
Thanks for a great and useful course.
I really enjoyed it and learnt a lot! I really feel after this weekend such a project is do-able, even for me.
Thanks also for your hospitality.
I am impressed how you set it up, run the courses, develop the materials and manage the website and blog and thereby keep us involved.
Great to have access to the others as well.
Please send my regards to Cathy and Connor.
I still don't have all the words of thanks for a truly amazing and wonderful experience.
Take care and thank you to Cathy and Connor for allowing us to invade their space too.
Thanks, thanks and thanks again for an awesome course.
I have put it on facebook already to 'brag'.
Blessings and good wishes to you all for 2013.
Will keep in contact.
Roy the course was excellent - thanks very much.
Thanks a million it was great, you certainly instilled enthusiam in us to build our own log home.
PS dont forget to tell Kathy we enjoyed her hospitality.
Balvindra and I would like to thank you so much for the wonderful weekend.
It was most generous of you.
We certainly learnt a lot and hope to put some of it into practice soon.
Thank you , thank you
Love and light
Paula and Balvindra
Thanks again for very insightful and helpful weekend of information it was terrific.
I want to thank you Roy for an excellent course on log home building.
The fact that you built your own home and could therefore match the theory with real experience was very helpful.
It also meant a lot to be able see the end product all the time while comparing notes.
This practical approach with the tools and machinery was worth more than what one could found in many books and I believe it is going to be very useful once we start with our own project.
Overall I learned many new things (even while having a coffee or lunch break) and enjoyed it very much at the same time.
Thank you very much for your kind hospitality and all the best with your future courses! I will be on the lookout for further technical detail on the web as it becomes available.
Thank you very much.
Thank you so very much for the hospitality and excellent learning experiencing.
It was an overall awesome experience! Small interactive group work and a very sociable group.
I have certainly become more aware of trees and in the few days since my return I have been on a path of rediscovering nature, trees and the environment.
I am finding myself continuously educating my siblings and relatives on every aspect of things I have come to learn.
Thank you, I will be in touch, wishing everyone a Happy and Prosperous new year!
Thanks for presenting your course with so much detail, interest and enthusiasm! The driving had me tuckered out by late afternoon, but,I would not have missed your course for anything!
I am currently considering land and tree options!
I wish to express my gratitude to Cathy and Connor for the awesome hospitality!
GOD bless you and your wonderful family!
Thank you very much for the excellent course , the information is useful , fruitful and very informative, I’ve learned much and really enjoyed it !
This is my first chance this week to really sit down and reply .
I’ve driven more than 4000 km this week, and there are lots of trees everywhere that can be used to build a log home !
My next house will definitely be a log home , thanks again and send my regards to the family .
I'm finally getting a chance to write to you after a bit of a busy week back here in Botswana.
Just want to thank you again for an excellent course.
It was very well presented and extremely comprehensive.
I'm very much looking forward to building a model and get into things.
Also to the guys of our class, it was a pleasure meeting all of you and I hope we'll stay in touch via the forum.
A big thanks to you Roy for condensing all of that practical knowledge and experience you gained into the workbook, it is much appreciated.
Looking forward to getting involved on the forum.
All the best,
Thank you for a great course.
I really enjoyed it.
For anyone thinking about doing the course, I say: "It's a must".
Great value for money and this course really covers everything that someone would need to know how to build a house.
It's also a big motivator to sit inside the log home and all around while learning about building a log home.
It just proves that it can be done.
Thanks Roy for a great course, your home is stunning, and your work amazing!
I really enjoyed the course, and was really inspired.
Was great to meet my fellow prospective builders, and wish you all good luck with your log ambitions!
Keep in touch!
What an amazing weekend, I am sure none of us will ever be able to walk past a tree again without sizing it up for potential log building.
Thank you so much Roy for the life changing experience.
The course was incredible and I have walked away with the confidence that I am able to build my own home.
The course content was so informative, interesting and compelling so much so that I find I am walking around with a whole new perspective.
Thank you also to Cathy for everything you are truly an earth angel.
And last but not least it is with absolute gratitude that I look back on the people that I shared this journey with.
Thank you for the laughs, the sharing and for your insight.
Please keep in touch and if you need extra hands and I can help please just shout.
In humble Gratitude
it was great doing the course with you,it was great to learn the tricks of the trade,we will put it to good use.
We will send you photos of the project once we are going,I will keep U informed.
Thanks for posting the photos, they came out great! What a weekend to remember, really was great.
Thanks so much Roy and family
Was really inspired by the extent of your practicality and engineering ability - thanks for sharing it with us!
Will send you my plans and drafts the moment I can start!
Was awesome to meet you all.
Every thing was Awesome;-)
A lovely, interesting & appealing setting for an inspirational learning curve - thank you Roy.
Best refreshing hospitality - thank you Cathy.
Wonderful company - thanks to everyone on the course, each one contributed to a very successful time spent together - thank you ALL.
Please keep in touch with anything that will help each other gain knowledge.
To all be Blessed with the Best ;-D
Thanks for an amazingly interesting course.
I had great fun, it was fantastic to learn about the log home building and also learning from each other.
It was truly inspirational and I can't wait to start my project!
After spending two full days in your beautiful natural home I felt kind-of awkward being inside brick structures with cold tile floors ;)
My sister and I just completed this course and we both now feel confident in our abilities to start planning our own home.
We also learned more than we bargained for, from splicing ropes to the basics of economics, with a bit of philosophy thrown in!
I feel motivated and enthused and whether or not I ever build a log home, the experience was worth every cent.
A great way to spend a weekend.
I just wanted to say thank you for all you have done.
I enjoyed he course and believe it was a life – changing moment for me.
It was far more than learning how to build a log home for me – it was a paradigm shift and re-enforcing of a life philosophy which has always been important to me.
I believe the positivity and selflessness in your approach will take you and this endeavor to a level not imagined.
I look forward to getting started with my first effort!
I will keep you posted and will definitely be popping round often!
A very worthwhile visit and might I add, a very pleasant one.
Excellent, more than adequate.
Thanks, great weekend, we really enjoyed it.
Now looking forward to doing something ‘constructive’
Thanks again Roy for the knowledge you taught me.
Looking forward to knowing everybody.
Thanks Roy for an amazing weekend.
The photos links you sent me are of great value and definitely food for thought.
Thanks also to everybody that attended the course.
You guys were all great!
Money well spent! Fees more than reasonable!
Appreciated the file - practical + good for future reference.
The models helped a lot.
Would not dream of doing it without the manual.
Thanks for a very informative course and learning experience Roy!
Thank you Roy for a very informative course and bring a new dimension of alternative homebuilding to me.
Although I started on this course to assist my sister and brother in law to develop their new venture, it has turned into a great investment for myself.
Hi Roy and Cathy
Most enjoyable course that I have had out of many - down to earth practical for my type of experience in the industry.
Not overbearing with tons of superfluous facts - interesting with alternative formulas and lateral thinking etc.
Your economics in construction was a refresher that commercialism overshadows with QUICK SOLUTIONS.
Lots of good fortune - for the future.
Good and informative.
never expected to hear from you so quickly.
Hope you got some rest! It was such an amazing learning experience and was so worthwhile.
We were so excited to see what is possible and at the same time how to do it for ourselves.
Thank you for the course and sharing your experience and this includes Kathy.
We'll be in touch.
Michelle and Di
An excellent course and will recommend it to other people also.
Great job and thanks a lot.
Thanks so much.
Let the fun begin….
Thanks for that and once again thanks for sharing your experience and skills in log home building with us in a very friendly, accommodating and hospitable environment.
We are already starting to change our current home designs to suit log building practices.
Now all we need is to find that piece of land we need and hopefully one that has the right trees already on it.
Until next time then.
Thanks for super weekend not forgetting the tea lady !!! Hope Malcolm and I can do you proud.
Thanks Roy for a very informative weekend.
I am looking forward to the big project, except chinking lol
Thanks for the course Roy.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a lot.
Good of you to open your beautiful home for this course.
It would be lovely if we could have time to build a little model.
Thanks to your wife for her kindness and plenty of coffee, biscuits and a lovely spread on Sunday.
Unfortunately the only hiccup was the rooster (lol!).
Perhaps preferable to keep him locked up?
Thanks very much.
I spent most of yesterday reading threads.
A lot of very useful information on there.
Can’t wait to start planning our first home.
Just to say thank you and Cathy so much for opening your house to us from the very bottom to the very top, and in 20 too short hours, teaching us how to build an entire house.
Although I am a practical handyman myself, I learned so many practical tips that you make building a log home seem easy.
And each tip is worth the course fee alone.
I didn’t take many notes because everything was so obvious to me and I already had a good idea of what you were talking about.
It is so obvious that it is one course that I will never forget the contents.
I know that I will always be able to build a log home from memory.
I know my notes will come in handy though because you managed to cram an incredible amount in to two days.
I am very excited to join your online community and to have access to other people’s experience.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and for giving me an incredible and worthwhile weekend.
I feel empowered, that I will never have need of shelter, or of an occupation again.
My knowledge and skills base in my field have increased enough to be comfortable offering to build shelter for people now, instead of only aesthetic treework, which is not much in demand in a recession.
My love of trees has broadened and I look at gum trees with new eyes.
Although it was only yesterday, I think it is safe to say that your course has changed my life.
Thanks for the excellent course and the warm environment it was held in.
Now lets see how long it takes me to put a few up in JHB.
The most appealing aspect of a log home is that it is yours, and not a financial institutions for 20 to 30 years.
Wishing you and your family health, wealth and prosperity.
Arthur and Dawn.
Many thanks to you and to Cathy too, for what turned out to be very informative, humorous and enjoyable weekend in all ways.
Hopefully I get it together to tackle something larger than a sauna, in the not too distant future.
Good morning,All Future Logbuilders
Thanks Roy for your Hospitality and making us feel @ home, again it was a great weekend and I learned a lot ,I see there is a lot of trees (potential walls )they felling in Pretoria ,
I just need to get it to the coast ,I planning to build my model during the coming week,
Keep well and we will chat definitely on the forum.
Just saying Hi!
And a very warm thank you for a fantastic weekend.
Francis and Travis
Thanks for a very informative course and learning experience Roy!----
Wow what a great course!
I think this is going to pay for itself many times over.
Busy designing on Google Sketchup.
I would recommend this to everyone.
I found it a bit of work to get used to, but once you get going it becomes very valuable.
The tutorials available on the net are worth going through.
By drawing to scale I have discovered important lessons thus far regarding proper planning.
I hope we can all stay in touch via the forum (look out for Treehugger - that's me!).
I would like to thank you and your family for having us over for the course, it was a wonderful experience and learnt so much.
We will stay in touch and keep you updated on our progress.
Thanks again for course.
Thank you, as for your dogs and family, send them my greetings.
I told my future wife (i will get married on November 2011) about the beauty of your town and specially ur golden house, she is crazy and wants to pay a visit next year.
Thank you for a wonderful workshop.
I found it very informative and I am excited to start my own project.
I surely will be touch when i do start.
It is comforting knowing that I can call on you for guidance for any challenges I may encounter.
The course was excellent and I enjoyed it.
Already the brain is swimming with ideas and visions.
Now the hard work comes.
The planning is the second hardest part with the negotiation and bargaining for the materials etc in my opinion the hardest.
It will be fun though.
Will do a pre-project being my daughters tree house working with the bulk of the principles.
Thanks again for the course and to your family especially Cathy for the hospitality and friendship
I got home safely on Monday, thanks.
All I would like to say about the course is that anyone looking to build a house needs a course like yours before they make that lifetime commitment to debt.
I wish I had known about it at the beginning of the year, before getting the site.
Anyways, it's a lesson learnt.
The course and the information was adequate for me to now engage in my building project that I've been dying to get on with, it's given me confidence.
I always wanted to build a unique kind of a house and this is it.
Thanks for it all and I sure will keep contact.
I enjoyed the course very much.
Thank you once again for an excellent course.
I am now on the constant lookout to see where I can create opportunities to build a log home.
Just a note to say thanks for the course and the hospitality shown by yourself and your family to both Steve and myself.
The conversation the whole way home was about design and any grove of trees passed along the way was in danger of being chopped down and carted off, Steve wants to start building yesterday he is so psyched up.
Once again thanks for the awesome time, we came away very enthusiastic and I am sure we are going to put it to good use.
I have taken several courses through the years in my private capacity in order to improve my standing.
and this is one of two which I consider to be potentially life changing.
I had a great a weekend! I enjoyed it very much! Thank you very much!
The course content and material exceeded all my expectations.
And I came with high expectations.
You've greatly inspired me; and I'm going to do it! I'm going to build my own home one day.
We have both arrived safely at home.
Thank you once again for the opportunity to attend such an life-changing course.
Cathy and your hospitality is highly appreciated.
We are geared up and cannot wait to start with our models.
Thanks for a very informative course and learning experience Roy!
Now it is all about getting my planning down to a "T" before tackling the construction part.
My head is spinning and me and Steve are eager to start our model-project just for fun.
Thanx for a great weekend
I think the course is really fantastic ,that it offers more than just how to , that your values came through strongly and I enjoyed them.
The course content and your ability to communicate really impressed me , you delivered an enormous amount of content , all extremely relevant and concise ,and i don't think you missed anything .
I feel very confident that if I follow your manual , your ethos and attention to detail i will produce a home that gives me great pleasure in the building stage and plenty for years to come .
I have bought some dowels and plan to build my1st model this weekend.
Thanks for more than just a course , and you you can expect referrals from me .
see you on the forum.
Thanks for the great weekend.
it was amazing everything we learned with you!!
Hi Roy and Cathy .
thanks, the course was great.
I enjoyed it very much.
it makes a lot of sense to consider logs instead of bricks.
All things considered - - it was so nice to meet both you and Cathy, and i hope we will stay in touch - in and out of the forum.
I am still very excited, motivated and will promote the course wherever possible to whomever is interested.
I am equiped with knowledge and a dream and that is very powerful (at least to myself!).
Thank you again to both of you.
take care .
thanks for a great weekend
All I can say is CONVERTED!! Stuff the bank and getting another mortgage.
Only got back this afternoon but already visited two scrap metal dealers, one timber yard, spoken to someone who has a log cabin nearby about getting plans approved, and set up a meeting with a mate who fells trees in an effort to find a second hand Bandsaw mill.
Luckily I have numerous Gum tree plantations within a 5km radius of my small holding.
Thank you for a fantastic course.
It is comprehensive and covered all aspects on how to build a log cabin.
Also thanks to you and Kathy for your generous hospitality.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and blessed festive season.
Once again thanks for a great course.
We were discussing plans all the way home and we certainly look at trees in a different way now Alastair
We enjoyed the course.
Found it all very instructive and illuminating and we had some fun as well.
Best wishes to you and Cathy
Brian & Penny
The course was great, my wife and I learned a lot.
I think it is a good idea if the men take their wife’s along to do the course, as it gives them a better understanding of what you want to do and therefore you have more support from them boosting you to build them a nice solid log home and they will not mind when you spend money to buy the right tools.
Have a nice day.
Roy, Cathy, Connor and the dogs,
Thank you for all your hospitality.
It was the nicest course I have ever been on.
It was inspirational to see a family clearly living their dreams and what can be nicer.
Maybe I can also live in a lovely self build log home one day.
Thanks again for everything.
I would like to thank you for the course of the 4th 5th Feb.
I really enjoyed it and it was a unique experience.
At this moment I'm still busy designing school classes, but soon will have a log house sketch that i can show you.
Have a good day
Thanku very much roy I have so much fun its was very nice.
if u need any help in the future give me a call
Thanks for the very interesting and inspiring course.
The challenge now rests with us to put it into practice.
Well done to you and Cathy for putting up with us and all our questions for two days.
Thanks for holding this course for us.
Learnt a lot and has built my confidence to make a go of it.
Not sure when I will make a start, but am keen to get going while things are fresh in my mind.
Think I should maybe start cutting the timber so long, oh yes and build a model.
You have an amazing home and your woodwork etc is outstanding.
Appreciated how you do everything yourself! Thanks to Cathy too for keeping us watered and fed.
I still cannot believe that a house can be built with such ease, I thank you for your presentation, you have no idea how much you've changed my attitude towards log house " I know it wasn't only me"
I have already started developing my plans for my log house and the log lodge.
all this will be started in the next three months.
I thank you and Kathy for such an eco-friendly method of building, of which it was a pie in the sky to most of us.
I also thank the group, GUYS, YOU WERE SUCH A WONDERFUL GROUP and you are all invited to my log lodge, once its finished, you all have one weekend free, but all of you, your turn will come after Roy and Kathy have visited (sorry)
The course was wonderful.
I expected it to be professional but is was even more than I had hoped for.
Even if I don’t build a log home straight away, the knowledge that I have gained was well worth the effort.
Thank you very much.
Also a special thanks to Cathy for her contribution to the event.
The coffee, cookies and the special meal on the 2nd day.
Thank you very much
I really did enjoy the course, and of course, I learned a lot.
I'll be building as soon as I can organize logs and get plans drawn etc.
Regarding the course, one of the best features for me, was the tour of your home to see how you have done things.
The theory is important and your presentations cover the topics well, but for me, real-life application of the theory is in many ways more helpful.
I appreciated the tour the most, followed by the informal discussions.
I always seem to learn more outside of the 'classroom'.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Hey there Roy.
Absolutely awesome course.
Definitely worth all of the hectic traveling I had to do to be able to attend.
Thanks to you, I found the Alaska Loghome Building Giude online, downloaded & copied to disc.
Haven`t had much opportunity to read much of it yet, but I have no doubt that it will be another manual, along with yours, that I will be constantly referencing when I get started on my project.
A special thank you to you & Cathy for opening your beautiful home to all of us for the duration of the course, & for your wonderful hospitality.
Your home is definitely an inspiration.
Just like to thank you and the wife for a great and very useful weekend.
Really enjoyed the Wilderness and specifically the course and your hospitality.
Sucks to be back home.
Have a good one.
Thanks for a wonderful course.
You have put a lot of time and effort in everything, your home, your hospitality, your presentation and wealth of knowledge, and the results are spectacular.
As soon as I start on my first project, I will let you know.
We arrived safely in Botswana has just been a hectic week .
Thank you for a wonderful experience not only the course which was excellent but also everyone that was there.
I will keep you posted from my side with feedback from various people that might be interested in building a log home in Botswana.
I am really exited to start.
Thank you guys for your hospitality and the lovely venue where we stayed .
Steve and Priscilla
We don't grow unless we take risks.
Roy and family thanks for the wonderful weekend and life ideas you have, its not only about log buildings but your approach to life and your idea will help anyone who want to make it in life,i will hold on to your words of wisdom and make a change in my life, we are in Gauteng now and keep well
Had a great time, thanks again for the hospitality and the ‘common sense approach’ to building a house!
We are really looking forward to the planning process, and bought the dowels today to start working on our model.
Will keep you posted!
What a pleasure it was to be on your course this past weekend, I believe that you passion for what you have done really rubbed off on each and every one of us.
Please thank Kathy for her terrific hospitality and patience with so many people invading her home.
I am definitely now getting ready to initiate our first guest house using this building technique, Lee was so impressed when she came in on Sunday at lunch time that she spent all of our traveling time going home on Monday sketching possible ideas for the first two guest lodges on the farm!
I look forward to one day being able to post on your site what we are doing.
Again many thanks and best wishes,
actually this course gave some more knowledge and ideas, it was really excellent.
Thank you very much.
I really enjoyed the course.
It inspired me a lot.
I'm definitely going to use it.
Thanks to your wife for all the trouble to serve us and to make us feel at home in her beautiful, magnificent home.
Thank you for the course, I (we) really liked the weekend, it was interesting in many ways.
I was maybe hoping for a little more practical exercises, but as the theory covers so much I understand there isn't much time left for actually practicing the skills.
After the course I felt both a bit overwhelmed as well as very enthusiastic to start building.
I am very grateful that we have the possibility to build up some experience with the other guys who are building in Jeffreys Bay before starting with our own house (hopefully next year).
I am glad I followed the course and we will be keeping an eye on the forum as well!

Thank you so very much for such an informative and interesting weekend, we learnt so much in such a short time, and your manual is very well thought out and well put together.
Yolande and I both enjoyed the course and your family home immensely and we look forward to putting it all into practice in the near future.
Cathy thank you for your hospitality and wonderful meals, and Connor thank you for lugging wood and keeping the fire roaring on that chilly weekend.
Roy I look forward to a practical week / weekend helping with the workshop when you get around to building this! Please let me know if I can offer any Gas related information, legislation, advice or compliance issues for your manual or forum.
Once again Roy, Cathy and Connor, many thanks and you have the most beautiful home.
Simon and Yolande
I would like to thank you again for the course and your hospitality during the course.
I really enjoyed it and learned a lot.
Thanksalot! Great course, by the way.
A lot more info than I expected and proof that I actually know a lot less than I think I do.
Course was excellent and filled in many blanks (you don't know what you don't know) and answered many questions I had.
Otherwise fantastic course, thanks to you and yours for letting us invade for the "weekend"
Thanks for a great wend of laughs and valuable knowledge gained, not forgetting Cathy for her great spread of lunch and endless cups of coffee.
To Cathy and Connor a big thanks for the great pics.
You will be pleased to know that we have embarked on our first project and have begun searching for logs, mean while I am building the foundations.
We have also bought a swing blade sawmill so all I G for go.
Thanks again and keep up the great spirit in which you conduct your course.
Hi to Cathy and Connor
Hi Roy and Kathy,
We would like to thank you very much for the opportunity to do the course and for being invited into your home.
Thank you Kathy for your hospitality and care!
We are very excited about every thing we have learned and seen.
We, especially me, have really learned a lot.
When friends ask us about the course, Henk tells me to answer them and that made me realize I have learned even more than I thought - Roy you must be a good "teacher"! Doing the course together was definitely a good idea and I would also recommend it for couples.
Traveling to and spending time in Wilderness happened just at the right time - we had lots of fun with the course and spending time out of the city.
We hope to see you sometime again, but will keep in contact and up to date on the net.
All the best for the 3 of you.
Henk and Yolandie
Hi Roy and Cathy!
My spiritual Master told me once "Never be satisfied with the degree of perfection you attain".
I cherish that advice.
I am happy that you also think on similar lines.
I personally feel that the course content was carefully selected and presented to the participants in a very well structured way.
I am glad that you omitted all unnecessary details.
A big 'Thank you' for the same.
Personally speaking I knew nothing about the construction of any type of building.
Since you started from the scratch it was not difficult to understand the things you explained.
Your personal experiences with different Govt.
Offices and companies were very revealing.
I could not have understood the 'tricks of the trade' had you not told us about how to make out expenditure as low as possible.
Wishing you best of luck in creating a general awareness among South Africans on why they should adopt a more natural style of life and start leading a more ecofriendly life to keep our planet a better place to live.
God bless you
You are the one genuine guy i have ever met.
Your family has such a quiet and peaceful spirit “maybe it’s the log cabin that humbles them that way) i mean your wife and son they are so sweet.
If it’s the effect of the log i really need a log home ASAP.
No one in this day and time allows total strangers in their homes, but you guys warmly welcomed us, and i must thank your wife for this.
my wife could have said we should have the seminar in the garage.
( sorry she is not that bad) but honestly from the bottom of my heart guys i really enjoyed your company.
As for the course it was awesome, i learned so much, i enjoyed the practical part of measuring and cutting the log, that is difficult .
( i must say it was my first time to use the chain saw).
Once again Roy you showed how much you love people and how concerned you were about our safety.
It’s only a person who is concerned about people that will stress about the wellbeing, for you i have learned it’s not all about money, but it’s for the unselfish reason of passing the information and allowing people to make informed decision.
I must stop now, otherwise i will write a book.
Love you all guys and special warm regards to your family
Best wishes for the new year.
Thank you for the seminar.
